We had our first big meeting with the team that is planning the 20th annual Canada Life CN Tower Climb for WWF-Canada today, and I spent much of it worrying about all those steps. But veteran climbers – including President Emeritus Monte Hummel, who has been first on the stairs at the Public Climb for 19 straight years – assure me that I have nothing to fear as I prepare for my first climb on April 17.
Those 1,776 steps are just one of the impressive numbers that are associated with this event. Last year, 6200 climbers raised $1.25 million dollars. Over 400 volunteers helped make the day a success. And perhaps the most amazing number of all? Twenty. WWF-Canada and our partners have been climbing those 1,776 stairs for 20 years.
Behind those numbers, there are countless stories. In the coming weeks, we’ll be introducing you to some of the climbers and volunteers who have worked so hard to support us. We’ll also be telling stories about the work that WWF does across the country and around the world – work that happens in part because so many great people climb those stairs for us.
Become part of the story by joining us at the tower – either as an individual climber or as part of a team. Over 1000 people have registered to climb already this year (and yes, that means that you should sign up SOON before we run out of space!).
Tomorrow, Monte will share some words of wisdom for first-time climbers. And I’ll start training…
