We received hundreds of suggestions via Twitter, Facebook and our blog, from children and adults across the country. We know you’ve been waiting for our decision, so without any further ado, the winners are:
Nerriungnerk – Submitted by Jess Holt
Nerriungnerk is an Inuit word meaning HOPE. Jess suggests calling the bear “Nerri” as a nickname. ["Hope" in many languages was by far the most popular suggestion from our readers. - SF]
Ursa – Submitted by Luli Maccagno
Luli says, “I think the mother bear’s name should be Ursa because it is a beautiful constellation that can be seen from the Arctic. In many ways, the mother bear is like a star; she guides her young, she is being tracked and admired by many of us. Besides, Ursa means bear in Latin, which is kind of nice.”

Vurry nice! I think that Nerri’s a great nickname, some people probably get their tounges twisted just saying Nerriungnerk.
Ursa’s also a great name, and excellent explanation!
Kudos ^^
