G20 gets told (again): oil subsidies are a waste

According to a report by Reuters this week, the Paris-based Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) recently made a strong recommendation to the G20 nations to stop subsidizing oil, coal and gas – a.k.a. “fossil fuels.”

“Many governments are giving subsidies to fossil fuel production and consumption that encourage greenhouse gas emissions, at the same time as they are spending on projects to promote clean energy,” OECD chief Angel Gurría told the Reuters news agency on Wednesday. “This is a wasteful use of scarce budget resources.”

It makes sense to me. Oil, coal and gas subsidies are kind of like giving a friend money to buy double chocolate cheesecake when she’s diabetic, lactose intolerant, and a year into her pledge to Jenny Craig.

Thanks for your article. A lot of people who are struggling to lose excessive weight, including myself will definitely benefit from this.
