Mr. PG gets ready for National Sweater Day

Prince George, BC shows their support for National Sweater Day by outfitting their nearly 10-metre ‘Mr. PG’.

This week has been an exciting one for us at WWF. Thursday marks the second annual National Sweater Day!

If you haven’t heard about National Sweater Day yet, it’s a call to take action against climate change and we’re asking you to turn down your thermostat and ‘turn up your sweater’.

One awesome story that we’ve heard about is from the city of Prince George, BC.  Several of the City’s buildings and floors at City Hall will be turning down the temperature 2oC to save energy and costs.  Mr. PG (A giant wooden man first constructed in 1960 as a symbol of the importance of the forest industry to Prince George) will be joining in by donning a sweater for the week to let Prince George residents know that they can save energy and money by lowering the heat on their thermostat.

“Municipalities are taking the lead on addressing climate change, and the City of Prince George was recently recognized by the Federation of Canadian Municipalities Partners for Climate Protection program for our efforts to reduce the impact both at in our own operations and within our community,” said Adrian Mohareb, Community Energy Program Manager for the City of Prince George.

So thank you, Mr. PG for wearing your best sweater this week – you look fantastic.
