10-year-old CN Tower climber aims to reach new fundraising heights

By Tess Finlay, Communications Intern, WWF-Canada
Each year the CN Tower Climb calls upon thousands of people of all ages to climb all 1,776 steps to raise money for WWF’s many conservation efforts.
Tristan Collier, a ten-year-old Toronto resident, is attempting his third go at claiming the title of  the climber with the most funds raised.  Having brought in an outstanding $3090 last year, Collier is going for the gold this year with an overall target of $4000.

“With $3000 I was able to help WWF afford one tracking collar for a Polar Bear. I’m excited to find out what $4000 could do this year,” said Collier.
Money raised by the fundraising efforts of CN Tower climbers goes to support WWF-Canada’s work in creating solutions to some of the most serious conservation challenges facing our planet, helping people and nature thrive.  It supports WWF’s priority conservation programs (including species-focused efforts): freshwater, climate and energy, arctic and oceans.
Although Collier was excited to have helped a Polar Bear, he is happy to donate his funds to any one of WWF’s conservation initiatives.
“I love all animals, especially pandas. And I really like what WWF does to help each animal and species in need.”
Tristan and his mother, Rebecca Collier, have decided to change up the classic approach to fundraising and are attempting door-to-door canvassing. This year their secret weapon will be to reach out to businesses and houses within the community and elsewhere to help Collier raise enough money to reach his overall goal and hopefully inspire others to take part along the way.
It just goes to show, that no matter your age, everyone has the ability to lend a helping hand in changing the future of our planet.
