Species of the Week: The orangutan
The world’s largest tree-dwelling mammal, this endangered species is considered one of humans’ closest relatives.
Every day, conversion of forest to timber, agricultural land and palm oil plantations destroys more of the orangutan’s lowland forest habitat, while poaching and wildlife trade pose further threats to this magnificent ape.
