Going back to school? A Bullfrog Power way to kick start your year

Written by Josephine Coombe, VP at Bullfrog Power
Every September students like you return to school to earn the education that will help you to better understand the world you’re inheriting. It is a world that will be defined by one major issue: climate change. And yet, even though we’ve all heard that young people are the future, there aren’t enough opportunities for you to make the real contributions that will help to solve the issue of our time.

It’s a problem that we’ve thought a lot about at Bullfrog Power and over the past year we’ve done more to bring the Millennial generation to the forefront of our work. From engaging our business partners on your values, to helping build new renewable generation at educational institutions—as we did with our Bullfrog Builds solar project on Banff Community High School—we are engaging students across Canada by showing that we are achieving real progress. We are also working with artists, most recently by bullfrogpowering The Sheepdogs tours, because artists have a unique ability to connect with youth on issues in ways that businesses sometimes can’t.
Bullfrog is now going even further to encourage students to take action on climate change. That’s why, this academic year, we’ve launched an exciting new product: Bullfrog Power for Student Life.

Here’s how Bullfrog works. Bullfrog Power puts green energy onto the grid to match the amount of power you use. To craft a product for students, we’ve done our research and estimated how much power the average student will use in every aspect of their student life over the course of an eight-month school year: 2,080 kilowatt hours. That amount covers the electricity used throughout all your locations and activities—your living space, in class, on and off campus—and for all your electronic devices—computer, tablet, and cellphone. And when you purchase Bullfrog Power for Student Life, Bullfrog ensures that 2,080 kWh of green energy is put onto the grid. With Bullfrog Power for Student Life, students have the power to fight against climate change and help build more renewable energy projects across Canada.
And because students like you think critically about the causes you support, you’ll be happy to know that Bullfrog Power is annually audited by Deloitte to verify that we have met all of our green energy commitments. Our work is also supported by organizations including the Pembina Institute, the Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment, and WWF-Canada.
In fact, we’re extremely proud of our relationship with WWF-Canada and have been a strong supporter of WWF led initiatives, such as the Living Planet @ Work program and the CN Tower Climb, as we all work to achieve a renewably-powered future. With Bullfrog Power for Student Life, organizations like WWF-Canada are helping us get the word out to the most enthusiastic and committed part of the population with a simple, but powerful message: you have the power to fight climate change—today.
