July 2015 Photo Contest: Watersheds

Canada has one-fifth of the world’s freshwater. Thousands of interconnected rivers and lakes across our country provide the essentials of life for people, animals and ecosystems.  Canada has 25 major watersheds of various shapes and sizes which are made up of over one hundred smaller sub-watersheds. No matter where you live in Canada (or the world) you are connected to a watershed and we want to see yours!

What is a watershed?
A watershed is an area of land that collects precipitation and drains it through a network of streams and rivers into a common body of water.
Find your watershed
Don’t know your watershed?  No problem!  WWF-Canada is working to complete the first Canada-wide assessment on the country’s watersheds, focusing on river health and threats.  Visit https://watershedsreports.wwf.ca to find your watershed.
Last month’s Graeme Loader Photography Board was all about our oceans! Congratulations to Cheryl A. from Somerset Sandys, Bermuda, whose beautiful photo of the Bluenose leaving Lunenburg Harbour in Nova Scotia was selected as our June photo contest winner.  Big thank you to everyone who shared their photos, it was great seeing people outside engaging with nature. You can view them all here.
