Louise Blight, Senior Officer, Marine Science
Louise has had an affinity for the ocean ever since growing up on the coast. During her undergraduate degree, Louise worked as a marine naturalist and zodiac driver in British Columbia and Antarctica. She found her niche while taking a course on marine birds at Bamfield Marine Station on the west coast of Vancouver Island. She graduated to working on seabird-related projects at remote sites in Canada’s Scott Islands, the California Current system, and the Antarctic, where she has studied penguins, albatrosses, auks and gulls. Louise has worked for parks and environmental agencies with federal and provincial governments and as a private consultant focusing on issues related to the conservation and management of threatened and endangered species.
Louise joined WWF-Canada while finishing her doctorate in 2012, commencing a short-term project to review the effects of underwater noise on whales and dolphins. She continues with this work in her role as senior marine science officer. Louise has produced nearly 50 articles including peer-reviewed publications, technical reports, blog posts, magazine stories and book chapters.
