WWF-CANADA BLOG
News, views and analysis from our team as we work to protect the future of our planet.
The WWF is run at a local level by the following offices...
It’s here again: Sunday is Mother’s Day, and we want to know how you’re celebrating your very own “Earth” Mother.
I live across the street from a grade school (which has its advantages and disadvantages), and noticed yesterday that some students have been busy clearing out the vegetable patch out front to make way for some new plants.
Spring is here! At least, it is in Toronto. Today. And possibly tomorrow. But even if the weather does turn wintry again (as I fully expect it will), spring is certainly on its way.
I was recently in Europe for some meetings and vacation, and couldn’t help but notice the many eco-friendly initiatives that some cities and regions have put into place.
The National Sweater Day love spread far and wide this year from grocers to grannies.
Clearly, a really important question this week. With National Sweater Day fast approaching (this Thursday, February 9!), Panda has a major fashion decision to make – and she needs your help!
Now that Christmas, Hanukkah and New Years are past, a new holiday season is upon us: the eco-holiday season. Starting with National Sweater Day on February 9, continuing with Earth Hour on March 31, then on to Earth Day on April 22, followed by Oceans Day on June 8…the list goes on.
With Hannukah here, Christmas just days away and the new year peeking around the corner, it’s a great time of the year to think about wishes.
I’m in Ottawa for meetings this week, a visit I make on a bi-monthly basis. There’s nothing to replace face time with our Arctic team (which is based in Ottawa), so these trips are incredibly valuable for me (and hopefully for them!). But getting to Ottawa takes some consideration.
A few years ago, WWF ran a great series of ads based on some incredibly sexist ads from the 1940s and 50s. One showed a woman cleaning a bathtub (in heels, no less!) with the line: “Because a woman’s place isn’t just in the kitchen!” Over this, WWF wisely added: “Not long from now, the way we’ve been treating the planet will seem just as wrong.”
It may sound like a pretty silly question, but if you haven’t tried it already, you really need to discover your inner animal with our Facebook app!
Shocking as it may be, it’s that time of year again: just over a month until Christmas (and just under a month to Hanukkah)! I’m a huge fan of all holidays, especially those that involve presents, so I’m pretty excited.
Our last day in Churchill – we think.
I guess it had to happen eventually – and I know it’s good for the bears, but brrr! Today the temperature dropped. Significantly.
Day 5 was a day “on the town” – my first chance to spend some quality time in Churchill itself!
