Getting ready to celebrate Chinese New Year and Dragon Ball

WWF to be honored as 2012 Community Champion Award winner.
Last week I attended the launch of the 2012 Dragon Ball, an annual fundraising gala organized by the Yee Hong Community Wellness Foundation. The foundation is part of the Yee Hong Center for Geriatric Care, which provides a number of services for the elderly within the Chinese community of Greater Toronto.
It was announced at the Dragon Ball press conference that WWF will be receiving the Community Champion Award, a huge honor for our organization. Jay Hooper, WWF’s Director of Development, joined Dr. Joseph Wong, Founder and Chair of Yee Hong Foundation, and many others in the lighting ceremony to kick off the gala event.
This year’s event will be held at the Metro Toronto Convention Center on Jan 28th, just ahead of Chinese New Year, which falls on Jan 23rd. The date changes every year depending on the lunar calendar. Being at the Dragon Ball press conference got me started thinking about the holidays, beyond the Christmas and Chanukah festivities that seem to be everywhere this time of the year.
Chinese New Year is a the biggest holiday of the year for Chinese people and extra important for those born in the year of the Dragon. This includes people born in 2012, 2000, 1988, 1976, 1964, 1952, 1940 and so on. I just read that this coming Year of the Dragon will bring much excitement, energy and enthusiasm. All good things to look forward to as we head into another year of amazing conservation work here at WWF!
