Tell Me Tuesday: What would you like students to learn about the environment?

With the start of another school year drawing ever closer, families and educators across the country have been thinking about what they’re going to learn and teach this year.  Here at WWF, we’re gearing up for the return to school as well, reaching out to teachers for our Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup (taking place September 15-23) and Green CommUnity School Grants (applications open in September) programs .
All of these school preparations made us wonder: what do we really want Canada’s students to learn about the environment this year?
We posed this question on our Facebook page yesterday, and found an interesting similarity across the replies: supporters Mike, Natalie and Michelle emphasized the importance of students understanding how everything in nature is connected, including humans (and sharks).
As Michelle so eloquently put it, she wants kids to learn “that we are nature, we are part of the web of life.  We aren’t ‘above’ it, or better than it.”

It’s a message that WWF has been sharing for over 50 years (often through videos, including “We are all connected” and “The world is where we live“). And hopefully one that will resonate with students this year and every year to come, so they can help build a future that respects those very connections.
What else would you like to see Canadian students learn about the environment this year?
