Four things you can do for the Arctic during Polar Bear Week

WWF-Canada’s Polar Bear Week is February 23-27! During the week we will be raising awareness and funds for our favourite Arctic species. Check in with us and read about the important Arctic research and advocacy we are doing to protect polar bears and ice whales from oil spills and Arctic shipping. After getting inspired, consider these four ways that YOU can support the Arctic.

1. Have a Winter Fundraiser

Become a Community Panda Member. There are lots of ways to raise money for WWF’s Arctic program. Have a bake sale for polar bears, turn your birthday party into a sea ice fundraiser or ask your friends and family if they will sponsor you to roll in the snow for the Arctic. This year, a generous donor has pledged to match the first $130,000 raised for the Arctic, so start planning now and DOUBLE YOUR IMPACT!
You can sign up here and we will help you out every step of the way!

2. Plan a Polar Bear Walk to School

Organize your own Polar Bear Walk to School day to cut down on the GHG emissions harmful to polar bears and the Arctic. Kyla can help you plan your walk, just email her!
If you can’t plan your own walk, you can support Sean Hutton’s Polar Bear Walk here.

3. Turn Down the Heat

Ask your family to set the heat in your house a bit lower this winter. If all Canadians lowered their thermostats by just 2 degrees Celsius this winter, it would reduce greenhouse gas emissions by about 4 megatons – equivalent to shutting down a 600 megawatt coal-fired power station!

4. Get Your Office Involved

Become a Living Planet at Work Champion and take part in WWF’s Spring Things campaign. Between turning your office green, jumping into a freezing lake, and climbing all 1,776 steps of the CN Tower, there is no shortage of ways for you and your coworkers to get involved. If you’re up for the challenge register here!
Our Arctic work depends on your support and right now you can have double the impact. Donate now and a generous donor will match your gift (the first $130,000 in donations will be matched).
