Meet Arabella. She is nine years old and she loves polar bears!

This past winter she poured her heart and soul into raising awareness and funds to help protect polar bears and their Arctic habitat during WWF’s Polar Bear Week. After taking the initiative to research the issues that they face, she spent long hours creating poster boards for presentations to share with her classmates, writing morning announcements to spread her message across the school and making daily videos on her Polar Facebook Page. At only nine years of age she took it upon herself to learn and teach others about greenhouse gasses, climate change, declining sea ice and the actions that everyone can take to make a difference. Some of her suggestions include driving less, using the off switch more and planting trees.
Overall, in 10 days Arabella successfully raised awareness throughout her community and educated her audience with facts about the issues. She even raised over $800 for WWF-Canada’s Arctic programs by fundraising online and hosting a bake sale. What a week!
Arabella said the whole thing was a lot of work but she had a lot of fun doing it. Check out her Polar Page on Facebook to see more.

Polar Bear week came to an end, as did winter, but Arabella didn’t stop trying to make a difference for the planet. As we rang in spring, she celebrated and promoted Earth Hour online and throughout her community. And now, as summer approaches she is organizing a Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup at Springbank Park in her hometown of London, ON.
On behalf of the polar bear and the planet we would like to say thank you Arabella! WWF-Canada is extremely lucky to have young, enthusiastic and dedicated supporters like you. We could not do the work we do without you and all of our Community Panda members who go above and beyond to build a better future for people and nature.
If you have been looking for ways to have fun while making a difference we are here to help!  Have a look at our ‘Fundraising for WWF’ webpage, or send us an email at [email protected].
