The 9th annual Seafood Summit that some of my colleagues have blogged about wrapped up last week, and some of the experiences are still fresh in my mind. One highlight was the recorded address from His Royal Highness Prince Charles. Among his clear and simple closing remarks, he said that the private sector has a tremendous opportunity to create an increased demand for sustainable seafood.

Unless you have been hiding under a rock for the past year, you have probably come across the term “sustainable seafood” at one point or another – on the news, in a magazine or in an advertisement. Sustainability is a pillar in the world of greener living, and a key to conservation success. We need to make choices in our lives that ensure that our planet can keep providing the things we need to live, and choosing to buy sustainable seafood is one of these choices.
